As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's populace was 29,131, reflecting an increase of 1,005 (+3.6%) from the 28,126 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 3,567 (+14.5%) from the 24,559 counted in the 1990 Census. Voorhees is a New Jersey suburb in the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan Area.

Voorhees Township was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 1, 1899, from portions of Waterford Township.

The township is titled for Foster Mc - Gowan Voorhees, the Governor of New Jersey who authorized its creation. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the township had a total region of 11.644 square miles (30.157 km2), including 11.492 square miles (29.764 km2) of territory and 0.152 square miles (0.392 km2) of water (1.30%). Voorhees borders the Camden County communities of Berlin Township, Cherry Hill Township, Gibbsboro, Lindenwold, and Somerdale.

New Jersey American Water, based in Voorhees Township, is the biggest water utility in New Jersey, serving over two million citizens in 176 communities throughout the state.

New Jersey American Water is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water. Voorhees is the home of the Skate Zone, a training facility for the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL. Current and former players of the team often turn into inhabitants of Voorhees.

The Township of Voorhees is governed under the Township form of New Jersey municipal government.

The five-member Township Committee is propel directly by the voters at-large in partisan elections to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with either one or two seats coming up for election each year as part of the November general election in a three-year cycle. In the 2008 presidential election, Democrat Barack Obama received 61.1% of the vote (9,028 cast), ahead of Republican John Mc - Cain, who received around 35.3% (5,216 votes), with 14,768 ballots cast among the township's 19,553 registered voters, for a turnout of 75.5%. In the 2004 presidential election, Democrat John Kerry received 57.5% of the vote (7,835 ballots cast), outpolling Republican George W.

In the 2013 gubernatorial election, Republican Chris Christie received 61.4% of the vote (4,679 cast), ahead of Democrat Barbara Buono with 37.4% (2,851 votes), and other candidates with 1.2% (95 votes), among the 7,845 ballots cast by the township's 21,636 registered voters (220 ballots were spoiled), for a turnout of 36.3%. In the 2009 gubernatorial election, Democrat Jon Corzine received 50.% of the vote (4,126 ballots cast), ahead of both Republican Chris Christie with 44.2% (3,645 votes) and Independent Chris Daggett with 3.8% (315 votes), with 8,248 ballots cast among the township's 19,611 registered voters, yielding a 42.1% turnout. Students in kindergarten through eighth undertaking attend the Voorhees Township Public Schools.

As of the 2013-14 school year, the district's five schools had an enrollment of 2,994 students and 236.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student teacher ratio of 12.6:1. As of May 2010, the township had a total of 119.81 miles (192.82 km) of roadways, of which 96.90 miles (155.95 km) were maintained by the municipality, 20.50 miles (32.99 km) by Camden County and 2.41 miles (3.88 km) by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The only primary highway that passes through Voorhees is Route 73 (Berlin-Kresson Road), which travels from the southern border with Berlin Township towards Evesham Township in Burlington County. Interstate 295 and Route 70 furnish access to close-by Philadelphia via Cherry Hill Township.
